press vs. press

Right now there is a big argument in icelandic press. The icelandic troubadour Bubbi Morthens has lately been mocked by the gossip magazines in Iceland. Some journalists are against the newest trend in icelandic journalism, the finding-small-skeletons-in-peoples-closets-and-blowing-them-up (well it´s not a new thing but it just got too much)

Once upon a time Séð & Heyrt was the bad guys in icelandic press but now DV and Hér & Nú have taken over and Séð & Heyrt is now like a little goldfish feels very smallnext to the gigantic killer whale Hér & Nú.

I think that the press has sunken too low when the head lines are about cheating, cigarette smoking and an old man being able to pee again without trouble.

One of the headlines told that Bubbi had failed..., everyone in iceland know that he used to be a drug addict, and the headline sounded like he had begun taking drugs again. Inside the magazine you found the headline again, and the text under it said that Bubbi had started smoking again. The thing is that Bubbi started smoking cigarettes more than a year ago and even I knew that. So it is obvious that Hér & Nú was indeed trying to let people think he had failed big time.

One of the journalists working for Hér & Nú Eiríkur has dumped a huge shit and instead of flushing and doing the right thing confessing his mistake and apologizing in TV tonight, he made the problem bigger by covering the shit with toiletpaper and saying that the headline was not supposed to make you think Bubbi had started taking drugs again. Now he can´t use the toilet without making the mess bigger... or having to face the stinking unpleasant problem and remove the shit!!

If you as a barista think you need to cover the cappuccinos you make with cacao-powder... maybe you should learn how to make good coffee... and if you call yourself a journalist and need to make people look bad in your articles, maybe you should change career!

Of course there are still good multimedias in Iceland and great journalists. Hopefully the bad ones realize that they are in the wrong business and disappear for good!!
